Ugreen
08.2021 – 10.2025
Objective
The aim of the U-green project is to develop measurement methods for determining the planning-relevant thermal and transport properties of roof and facade greening systems. To this end, commercially available systems are classified and thermally characterized, with a focus on dynamic behavior, thermal insulation, and evaporative cooling.
Project content
The influence of different plantings and root penetration on thermal properties is also being investigated. The results are entered into a freely accessible measurement data register, which serves as a basis for future planning and optimization processes.
In addition, the potential savings in final energy are analyzed using typical buildings and reported in the data register. The methods developed in the project create a scientifically sound basis for industrial standards for the building physics evaluation of greening systems.
Through participation in expert committees, the findings are to be integrated into guidelines, standards, and, in the future, into the Building Energy Act (GEG).
The project is being carried out in close cooperation with the Center for Applied Energy Research e.V. (CAE) in Würzburg.
