Technology and climate impact management
Our mission is to show that every small step towards sustainability is a leap towards a healthier and happier life. We know this is not easy, but we believe that obstacles drive creativity. We search for meaning in what we do, we aim to empower others, to trigger a change in mentality. We combine disciplines and look for disruptive solutions to radically decrease emissions across different sectors. We are CORE, the Research Group for Decarbonization Strategies.

Research focus
- Low-carbon strategies and technologies
We evaluate and optimize strategies to mitigate emissions across key sectors – energy, transport, buildings, and agriculture. Our methods include Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs), uncertainty quantification, and techno-economic and environmental optimization - Energy systems analysis: from plant to network scale
We design and assess innovative technologies and system configurations that enhance energy efficiency and integration:
Power plant-level innovation: conceptual design and optimization of advanced conversion technologies such as gas turbines, combined heat and power (CHP), waste heat recovery, carbon capture, bioenergy, energy storage (e.g., compressed air, thermal, and batteries), using principles from thermodynamics, process engineering, and thermal sciences.
Network-level integration: optimization of complex, multi-technology systems such as electric grids, district heating networks, and gas infrastructure using advanced modeling tools and IAMs. - Life cycle assessment (LCA)
We conduct comprehensive environmental evaluations of technologies, services, and products using Life Cycle Assessment methodology. This includes: data collection and model development, interpretation and communication of results, and benchmarking against established studies to ensure robustness and comparability
