Campus for Applied Research (CAF)

Within THWS’ structures and as a central department governed by the Vice-President for Research and Start-ups, Professor Dr.-Ing. Jan Schmitt, the Campus for Applied Research (CAF) is an independent business unit.

The Campus Applied Research (CAF) supports and accompanies all THWS members in the areas of research and transfer, from spin-offs to ideas for the future. CAF’s areas of responsibility include research administration, young scientists, transfer & innovation, start-ups & entrepreneurship, and the cross-sectional area of strategic university development.
CAF staff are mainly assigned to the departments/divisions, with research administration divided into the sub-areas of Research Services & Research Funding, Project Management (CAF-PMO), Research Information System and Research Infrastructure. In addition to the Graduate School with the Doctoral Centre for Sustainable and Intelligent Systems (NISys), the Contact and Information Centre for Scientific Integrity (KIWI) is also located at the campus.
The Campus for Applied Research is headed by Dr. Christian Lengl.

Our Graduate School offers comprehensive support and accompanies young scientists on their path to scientific excellence with individual offers and targeted support programmes.

Our Campus division supports the entire life cycle of science – from the development of ideas to the application for and implementation of projects to the evaluation, spin-off, or exploitation of the results.
The Campus for Applied Research provides advice and support to researchers and partner companies to ensure that the necessary processes are designed efficiently and effectively."
