Scientific communication at THWS

New scientific communication strategy

How does research become knowledge that influences society? With the new scientific communication strategy, THWS has created clear guidelines on how to make research more visible, how to encourage exchange with practice partners and students, and how to promote innovations.

For more details on the guidelines, objectives, and measures of THWS regarding scientific communication, please see our scientific communication strategy (in German only).

Share knowledge. Promote exchange. Shape the future.

At the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS), scientific communication exceeds regular PR work – to us, it expresses societal responsibility. Scientific communication makes research and science accessible to the public in a relevant and exchange-oriented way – in the region, throughout Germany and abroad.

At THWS, scientific communication is based on our three strategic pillars: digitalisation, internationalisation, and zero carbon. For this, we connect people, disciplines, and ideas across cultural, linguistic, and professional boundaries.

Our objectives for the future

  • Making science visible: We want to make present research and transfer activities at THWS visible to the public.

  • Increase trust in science: We communicate in a transparent, understandable, and quality-oriented way.

  • Enabling dialogue: Science is not only supposed to provide information, it is also supposed to listen. We promote exchange with society, economy, politics, and media.

  • Applying knowledge: We aim for scientific findings to be implemented into societal and economic processes.

About us

The graphic symbolically displays the cooperation at THWS for scientific communication

Scientific communication is an interdisciplinary issue requiring the cooperation of various parties:

  • Researchers and lecturers of all faculties

  • Graduate schools and research institutes

  • Students and doctoral students

  • Press and public relations, marketing

Scientific communication at THWS is centrally coordinated by the Campus for Applied Research

Our formats and channels

We are using a broad range of target group-specific formats:

  • Print: THWS Science Journal (in German only)

  • Events: Forschendenstammtisch (Researchers' regulars table), Innovation Day, Promotionsretreat (Doctoral student retreat)

Our target groups range from the general public and business partners, to media, politics, and THWS members.

What's next?

Scientific communication at THWS keeps expanding – with a focus on strategy, quality assurance, and networking. We are currently developing an extensive concept. Among the intended measures are:

  • Expansion of meeting meeting platforms like the Forschendenstammtisch (researchers regular table)

  • Establishing the Science Journal as THWS' central research journal
