The three main areas of research ("Energy Technology and Energy Efficiency", "People and Mobility", and "Digital and Intelligent Systems") aim to summarise and reflect the qualities of the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt in particular.
The research focuses include all technical, economic, social, and artistic research areas of THWS.
Energy Technology and Energy Efficiency

The research focus on energy technology and energy efficiency centres on application-oriented research, development and analysis of technical systems for energy technology, and increasing energy efficiency. The research issues range from renewable energy generation to energy transmission and conversion to energy use. In interdisciplinary collaboration, the departments of architecture, civil engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, plastics engineering, mechanical engineering, mathematics, and physics combine their expertise in the calculation, simulation, and design of these systems.
Human and Mobility

This research focus examines the "mobility" research cluster from a broad, interdisciplinary perspective – from concrete physical aspects to abstract concepts.
Mobility is indispensable for both humans and many technical systems. We want to be mobile ourselves, both here and now and in old age. This mobility should be as resource efficient as possible and also allow access to information and services. All ten faculties at THWS are involved in this research focus and are working on topics such as "Running as therapy", "Mobility in old age", "Systems for mobile applications", etc.
Digital and Intelligent Systems

The third research focus examines all aspects of digitalisation in production, manufacturing, trade, and society. The emphasis is on the measurement, collection, processing, storage, and distribution of data, data security, and modern manufacturing processes.
