Throwback: Innovation Day Mainfranken 2025

Digital. Sicher. Geschützt. (Digital. Secure. Protected.) – was the motto for the Innovation Day Mainfranken 2025 offered by the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt in cooperation with the University of Würzburg, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Würzburg-Schweinfurt, and the Region Mainfranken GmbH. At our THWS Sanderheinrichsleitenweg campus, we focused on cyber security and digital security.

Experiences close to practice

Not only could the participants listen to lectures, they could also experience live demonstrations. Aleksander Paravac from the IT service center of JMU demonstrated how easy it is for hackers to access systems, thus highlighting the importance of up-to-date hardware and software as well as trained staff.

Consideration of human and technology

A particularly drastic example was given by Ingo Jung from Frankfurt University Hospital: a hacker attack might even cripple large medical devices like MRI – an in the worst case render it entirely inoperative.
Companies like Madinger also showed that cyber security must always consider the human factor: one inconsiderate click suffices to let a virus into the system.

Transfer and cooperation in Main-Franconia

Our technology transfer centers (TTZ), especially the TTZ-WUE in Ochsenfurt, support regional companies in matters of IT-security and digitalisation. THWS President Professor Dr. Jean Meyer and JMU Vice President Professor Dr. Matthias Bode emphasised the importance of knowledge transfer between higher education institutions, economy, and administration – Main-Franconia has established an ideal network.

Conclusion: linked knowledge reduces risks

The Innovation Day showed that digital security concerns everyone – from large hospitals to small and medium-sized companies. Cyber risks can only me minimised through cooperation, continued training, and knowledge transfer. Through this event, THWS proved anew: We make research, transfer, and practice visible – for our region and beyond.
