The Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) has introduced a significant expansion to its digital infrastructure: the latest version of ChatGPT-4.0 is now available free of charge to all students and staff. This artificial intelligence (AI) based technology from OpenAI is designed to enrich and support everyday university life and private activities alike.

ChatGPT-4.0 offers a wide range of applications that can benefit the academic community. For example, students can use AI to write academic papers, conduct research more efficiently, deepen their understanding of learning content, and realise creative writing projects. In the private sphere, ChatGPT-4.0 can be helpful as a travel planner for the most beautiful and affordable destinations, a communication assistant for writing emails, a household manager for shopping lists and recipes, and a comprehensive source of information on a wide variety of topics.

How to use ChatGPT-4.0

ChatGPT-4.0 is used via the HAWKI interface, which is specially tailored to the requirements of higher education institutions. To gain access, go to website https://hawki.thws.de/ and ensure that you are connected to the THWS network. HAWKI guarantees data protection-compliant use, with no personal data being stored. OpenAI cannot assign queries to individual persons and does not use them for further training of ChatGPT.

To make the most of your ChatGPT use, it is helpful to assign a role to the system. Assign ChatGPT a clear and precisely defined task and specify any details that require special attention.

• "You are my personal learning assistant. Help me study for the e-commerce module exam. Please do not give direct answers to exam questions, but help me find the correct calculation methods. Make sure that I calculate each equation myself before you move on to the next calculation method."
