Road surface and flooring

THWS sites on Röntgenring is not equipped with a tactile guidance system. Flooring is not consistent and there might be obstacles due to construction work. At the moment, there are several buildings affected by construction work. Hallways and staircases of Röntgenring 8 are mainly equipped with stone tiles or linoleum flooring. Lecture and seminar rooms are equipped with a wooden floor or carpeted. Partly, the steps are protected against slipping by steel edges, but do not have any marking or additional tactile features.

Access, passages and lifts

The THWS site on Röntgenring consists of five buildings. All buildings are connected to each other. Between the Buildings C and D, there is a difference in height which can only be overcome by several steps. Therefore, a barrier-free passage between these two buildings cannot be granted. Between the Buildings B, A, C and between Buildings D and E, a barrier-free passage is possible. Fire doors that do not open automatically have to be passed. All barrier-free access points are located on the southern side of the site, facing away from Röntgenring. This southern side can be reached by circumnavigating the building or via Franz-von-Rinecker-Weg, 97070 Würzburg. The Campus Information System, Campus Röntgenring offers a detailed overview. An animated representation of the buildings is available from 3-D Campus Information System, Campus Röntgenring.

Building A

Building A is located in the north-western part of the site and is connected to Buildings B and C. Access without stairs is possible through the southern entrance (between Buildings B and A). A paved sloping ramp without handrail leads to the entrance door. It has no automatic opening mechanism. Behind the door is a lift with a passage width of 80 cm. This lift moves to Levels E (= Level 0), 1, 2, 3.

To reach room A.2.03, a ramp with handrails on both sides must be used. The ramp is located in the staircase area in front of the lecture hall.

Building B

Building B is located in the south-western part of the site and is connected to Building A on Level 1. Level 0 is accessible at ground level via the entrance on the eastern side of Building B. The door has no automatic opening mechanism. The lecture room Wilhelm-Conrad Röntgen in room B.0.05 is not barrier-free accessible.Opens internal link in current window

Level 1 is only accessible via Building A or C. Take the lift in Building A and go to Level 1. Keep right when leaving the lift. After approx. 15 metres, there is a hallway to your right. Then follow the hallway straight ahead. The hallway leads over a bridge into Building B. Alternatively,in Building C the lift to Level 1 can be used. Use the hallway opposite the lift and cross the fire door. At the end, turn into the hallway on the left. It leads over a bridge into Building B.

Building C

Building C is located in the middle northern part of the site and is connected to Buildings A and D. There is a difference in height between Building A and D which can only be overcome by using steps. A stepless access to Building C is on the southern side of the building. Doors do not have an automatic opening mechanism. The lift is right behind the entrance on the right side. Its passage width is 80 cm and it moves to Levels K (= Level -1), E (Level 0), 1, 2.

Building D

Building D is between Building C and E. There is a difference in height Between Building D and C which can only be overcome by using steps. To reach Building E, you have to pass through fire doors without automatic opening mechanisms. The southern entrance in the passage between Building D and E is higher and has to be reached by using four steps without a handrail.

The lift of Building D is accessible via the basement. A footpath runs to the left (west) of the building parallel to the house wall. It leads to a sloping ramp that runs in the opposite direction. At its end there is a non-automatic entrance door. The door has a threshold about 2.5 cm high. Follow the hallway and at its end turn left. The lift is now on the left-hand side. Its passage width is 100 cm and it moves to Levels K (= Level -1), 0 and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Building E

Building E is connected to Building D on the Levels -1, 0, and 1. The southern entrance in the passage between Building D and E is higher and has to be reached by using four steps without a handrail. A barrier-free access is possible by using the lift in Building D. After reaching the desired floor level, cross the staircase. Pass also the passage between Building D and E to get into Building E. Fire doors that do not open automatically have to be passed.

Staircases

Several staircases make it possible to move between floors. The entrances and exits of the buildings are on Level 0. Most staircases are equipped with handrails, but do not offer Braille.

Guidance system

For orientation within THWS buildings in Würzburg, a consistent system of room numbers is used. Numbers start with a letter designating the building. For buildings on the premises of Röntgenring 8, the letters A, B, C, D, E are used. The following number designates the floor number or level. After that, the actual room number is given. Example: A.1.01 = Röntgenring 8, Building A, Level 1. Room 1. Room designation in THWS buildings in Schweinfurt differs from that, because there numbers are used to designate buildings.

Building plans

At all important locations, escape and rescue plans are displayed. They make an overview of parts of the building possible. In addition, site plans are displayed at central locations.

Room marking

Room marking in the buildings of Röntgenring 8 is not yet consistent. Boards mounted on the wall state the room number and the room’s use. At seminar, meeting, and lecture rooms, ongoing and upcoming courses are shown on rather small digital screens.
