Celebration in the Schweinfurt Town Hall: awards for the best graduates of THWS

Mayor Sebastian Remelé hosts last awards ceremony during his term of office

Joy with a touch of sadness: For the last time in his term of office, the Mayor of Schweinfurt Sebastian Remelé honoured the best graduates of the past semester at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS). Together with THWS President Professor Dr. Jean Meyer, he congratulated them on their outstanding achievements in the historic hall of Schweinfurt Town Hall.

In his speech, Mayor Remelé emphasised how important it was to him to demonstrate the close connection between the city and THWS with the traditional farewell ceremony: "It is important that students feel at home in Schweinfurt!" As the best in their year, they belong to the elite of the Free State. He therefore called on them to respond to the current crisis in industry with a pioneering spirit and innovation. Those who had received an excellent education now had a duty to help the state and the region out of the crisis: "I ask you to show a healthy dose of patriotism, because we need people who are passionate about this region!"

In his speech, THWS President Professor Dr. Jean Meyer emphasised the importance of higher education institutions in the economic ecosystem and their contribution to overcoming the crisis. He praised the graduates for their outstanding achievements and advised them not to be discouraged, because every crisis also holds potential: "See the crisis as an opportunity and make this turbulent world a better place!"

During the presentation of the certificates, THWS’ president asked the award winners about their impressions of their time at THWS and their plans for the future. The close connection to industry through internships and final theses was often mentioned as a particular advantage. As a result, some of the students were already looking forward to permanent job offers. Many also opted for one of the THWS master's programmes or remained loyal to the University as research assistants. The international students in particular described succinctly the positive influence that studying in Schweinfurt had had on their lives. They said that a small town with short distances was an advantage when there was no family on hand to provide support. Although the winter weather took some getting used to for students from South America, the graduates looked back positively on their time in Lower Franconia.

Geis Group awards prizes for final theses

Marco Weißensel from the Geis Group presented the Geis Sponsorship Award for the best final theses in the bachelor's degree programmes in Logistics to Adeel Malik, Hoang Uyen Khe Le and John Kiplangat Talam.

Finally, individual graduates were honoured with awards from the Association of German Engineers (VDI), the Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (VDE), and the Faculty of Industrial Engineering. Afterwards, the mayor, THWS staff and graduates celebrated with a traditional snack in the town hall foyer.
