PhD Position – Natural Language Processing


CAIRO is looking for PhD candidates working on Natural Language Processing

The successful candidate shall join the research team of CAIRO under the supervision of Dr. Ivan Yamshchikov and benefit from research collaboration opportunities within the CAIRO center as well as with other research centers in the Institut Digital Engineering (IDEE) of THWS.

The research topics include but are not limited to computational creativity, large language models, generation of natural langugae, applications of modern natural language processing methods for social good, and natural language processing for digital humantities.

Two positions are open with 50% German TVL13 based in Würzburg, Germany. The funding could be extended upon success of additional grant application. Starting time as soon as possible.

We seek strongly motivated self-driven candidates wishing to develop their research competences, and dedicate to delivering solid research results. The PhD candidates shall have strong background in math, probability and programming plus solid understanding of fundamental ML/DL principles. They shall hold a MSc degree (or be close to obtaining one) in a related technical field. Excellent level of spoken and written English is a must.

About CAIRO:
Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics is a new research center established at THWS under the Hightech Agenda Bayern. The objective of the Center is to take up current topics in artificial intelligence and research them for the sake of society while facilitating effective knowledge transfer to the practical domain within various industry sectors. The focus is also on a more holistic understanding of AI – as opposed to isolated individual scenarios, which is the typical practice today. Ethical and legal aspects of AI will play an important role.
